Imperial Beijing
Your journey begins at Beijing Capital International Airport, where you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to your centrally located 4-star hotel. Over the next two days, walk through the heart of imperial China, from the palace of the Ming and Qing emperors to the mountain passes of the Great Wall.
The Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square
Once home to 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Palace Museum is the largest and best-preserved imperial palace complex in China and one of the world’s five great palace complexes. From there, continue to Tiananmen Square, one of China’s most iconic landmarks and the site of many important events in the nation’s history.
Juyongguan Great Wall
About 60 km from downtown Beijing, Juyongguan is one of the best-preserved Great Wall sections near the city and less crowded with tourists. Known as one of the three great passes of the Great Wall, the fortress sits in an 18-km-long mountain valley around the Cloud Platform, a white marble base built in the 1340s during the Yuan Dynasty. Climb the wall for panoramic views over the mountains and the pass below.
Summer Palace & Hutongs by Rickshaw
Built around Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill and inspired by Hangzhou’s West Lake, the Summer Palace is the best-preserved imperial garden in China, often called the “Museum of Imperial Gardens.” End the day aboard a rickshaw, winding through narrow hutong alleyways and historic courtyard neighbourhoods to discover the everyday life of old Beijing.
The Silk Road Capital
After breakfast, board the high-speed train to Xi’an, the ancient capital of China and the starting point of the Silk Road, where merchants from all over Asia once came to trade. The next day, meet the clay army created to guard the tomb of China’s first emperor.
Muslim Quarter
Near the Drum Tower in the heart of Xi’an, the Muslim Quarter is one of the city’s most iconic culinary districts. Named for its significant Hui population, it is a vibrant hub of local culture and tradition, where you can discover a vast array of authentic Xi’an delicacies and street food.
Bell and Drum Tower Square
Set between the historic Bell Tower and Drum Tower, this square is one of the city’s main landmarks. Surrounded by busy shopping streets, green spaces and seasonal flower displays, it is a pleasant place to take a break, admire the historic towers and soak up the lively atmosphere of downtown Xi’an.
The Terracotta Army
Spend the day in Lintong District, home of the life-sized Terracotta Warriors. Discovered in 1974 and often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the site is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. Your guide will reveal the individual facial expressions and the ancient technology used 2,000 years ago, an immersive VR experience helps you understand this wonder, and the nearby museum displays the chariots and bronzes found in the mausoleum.
Tang Dynasty Splendour
Step into the golden age of ancient Chang’an through its museums, Buddhist pagodas and Tang-style streets, then spend your final morning on the city walls before boarding the high-speed train to Chengdu for your first dinner in the city.
Xi’an Museum & Big Wild Goose Pagoda
Discover the old capital’s history at the Xi’an Museum, which combines exhibition halls, the thousand-year-old Tang Dynasty pagoda and Jianfu Temple, and garden landscapes. Stroll around Daxingshan Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in China, and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, built in 652 AD under the supervision of the monk Xuanzang to preserve the scriptures, statues and relics he brought back from India.
Hanfu & the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City
Dress in Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han people, and step into the Grand Tang Dynasty Ever Bright City at the foot of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Stretching 2,100 metres from north to south, it is China’s only large-scale pedestrian street designed in Tang Dynasty style, filled with shopping, dining and performances that bring Tang-dynasty Xi’an to life.
Ancient City Wall & Yongxingfang
Spend the morning on Xi’an’s City Walls, one of the largest and best-preserved ancient city walls in China, with a smaller section from the Tang Dynasty and a grander one expanded under the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty. Then head to Yongxingfang, where a wide variety of local snacks and regional specialties offer a taste of traditional Shaanxi cuisine.
Pandas & Slow Living
Your final chapter unfolds in Chengdu, a city where giant pandas, open-air teahouses and Qing-dynasty lanes sit alongside a futuristic skyline. After a farewell dinner on Day 9, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure on Day 10.
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
Meet China’s national treasure at this world-renowned conservation and research center. Step into the Giant Panda and Red Panda pavilions to watch the pandas eat, play, climb and lounge in their naturalistic surroundings, and learn about breeding, daily care and habitat preservation. The visit includes an electric cart ride.
Dongjiaoyiji & Modern Chengdu
Explore Dongjiaoyiji, a former industrial complex turned creative district of preserved factory buildings, art spaces, cafés and music venues.
