Shanghai

Will my international apps (Google, WhatsApp, Instagram) work in China?

Many international apps are restricted in China. To keep you connected, we provide each participant with an eSIM with an integrated VPN (included in the tour price). This allows you to use Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Gmail seamlessly. Please ensure your phone is eSIM compatible; if not, contact us for alternatives. Note: eSIMs do not provide a Chinese phone number, which may be required for some local delivery apps.

How do I pay for things in Shanghai? Are credit cards accepted?

Shanghai is a leader in digital payments. While major hotels and luxury malls accept Visa/Mastercard, most local markets, water town vendors, and small restaurants use Alipay or WeChat Pay. We strongly recommend linking your international card to Alipay before departure. The official currency is RMB (Yuan); foreign cash is not accepted for local purchases.

Do I need a visa to visit Shanghai in 2026?

China has expanded its visa-free entry policies for many countries in 2026. Additionally, Shanghai offers a 144-hour visa-free transit for many nationalities. We recommend checking your specific eligibility based on your passport. If you require a standard tourist visa, we can provide the necessary invitation documents.

Is China safe for international tourists?

Shanghai and the Jiangnan region are among the safest travel destinations in the world. The crime rate is extremely low, and the environment is very welcoming to foreigners. Our guides are also present to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the journey.

What language is the tour conducted in?

All our tours are conducted entirely in English by professional, licensed guides. They will bridge any language gaps at restaurants, sites, and markets, ensuring a stress-free experience.

What kind of weather should I prepare for in Jiangnan?

The Jiangnan region (Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou) is humid subtropical. Spring and Autumn are pleasant but rainy; Summer is hot and humid; Winter is cool and damp. We recommend comfortable walking shoes for stone-paved water towns and always carrying a compact umbrella or light rain jacket.

What level of physical activity is required?

This tour involves moderate physical activity. You will be walking on uneven stone paths in ancient water towns, climbing stairs in gardens, and navigating urban areas. If you have mobility concerns, please notify us in advance so we can assist with your planning.

Can special dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes. We can arrange for vegetarian, halal, or allergy-friendly meals if notified in advance. While Shanghai offers diverse options, some remote water towns may have more limited selections, but our guides will always work to find suitable options for you.

How do I reserve my spot?

To book, simply contact us via email, social media, or our online survey. We will respond promptly with a booking confirmation, itinerary details, and payment instructions.

How can I pay for the tour?

We accept international bank transfers and PayPal for your convenience. Please contact our office for specific account details and payment links.

What type of hotels are provided?

We select high-value, comfortable hotels (double occupancy) listed in your itinerary. Most include breakfast and Wi-Fi. While urban Shanghai hotels are modern, accommodation in smaller water towns offers a more traditional, charming atmosphere.

Can I book a single room if I am traveling alone?

Yes. Single rooms are available upon request for an additional single occupancy fee. Since boutique hotels in water towns have limited space, please confirm this well in advance.

What if my flight arrives late?

We provide a recommended arrival window for airport transfers. If your flight is delayed within that window, we will still be there. Significant delays outside this range may require alternative transportation at an additional cost.

Are there any free time opportunities?

Yes. We balance the itinerary with free time in the evenings and on arrival/departure days. This allows you to explore Shanghai's nightlife or take photos of the water towns at your own pace. Your guide will provide plenty of "insider" recommendations.

Is travel insurance required?

It is strongly recommended. Your policy should cover medical emergencies, trip delays, and lost baggage. If you plan on participating in more active excursions, ensure your policy covers those specific activities.

What happens in case of extreme weather?

If heavy rain or safety warnings occur, we prioritize your safety. Outdoor activities may be rescheduled or replaced with premium indoor attractions like museums or tea ceremonies to ensure your trip remains enjoyable.

What type of electrical outlets are used?

China uses 220V electricity with plug types A, C, and I. We recommend bringing a universal travel adapter to keep your devices charged during the tour.
