Do I need a visa to visit Mongolia?
Entry rules depend on your passport. Citizens of many countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, EU member states, Australia and New Zealand, can enter visa-free. Travelers from non-exempt countries must obtain an e-Visa through the official portal evisa.mn before departure. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Mongolia. Since policies change, please check the latest requirements on evisa.mn.
Where does the tour start and end?
The expedition begins with a flight into Mörön and ends with a domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar on Day 8. International flights to and from Mongolia, domestic flights to Mörön, and associated airport taxes are not included.
How many people are in the group?
Each departure is strictly limited to six travellers. This hard cap preserves the intimacy of the Tsaatan camp and the integrity of the cultural exchange.
When does the tour depart?
Departures are on request. Contact us with your preferred dates and we will reply within one business day.
Where will we stay?
You will spend two full days and nights inside an authentic Tsaatan teepee-style tents in the Taiga, and one night in comfortable lakeside cabins at Khövsgöl Lake. The remaining nights will be spent in a mix of guesthouses and campsites. All overnight stays across the itinerary are included.
Are meals included?
Yes. Full meals are included across the entire itinerary, including a welcome dinner of stone-roasted meat over open flames and a farewell lunch at Khövsgöl Lake.
How do we get around?
You cross the steppe by 4×4 off-road vehicle with professional drivers, ride into the Taiga on Mongolian horseback, and cruise Khövsgöl Lake by boat. Fuel, regional road fees, horses, riding guides and horse equipment are all included.
Can absolute beginners participate in the horse riding sections?
Yes. The Mongolian horses selected for our teams are highly domesticated, sure-footed, and accustomed to tracking through forested terrain. Experienced local horse guides lead the line at a controlled pace, making the journey safe and manageable for first-time riders.
Will I have phone signal, internet, or electricity in the Taiga?
No. Once we depart Tsagaannuur and enter the Taiga, you will be completely off-grid with zero cellular service. There is no electrical grid in the forest. We recommend high-capacity, cold-resistant power banks to keep cameras and devices charged until we return to civilization.
Are there specific medical restrictions for this expedition?
Yes. Due to the physically challenging nature of off-road driving, extended horse riding, and the remote sub-arctic climate, this expedition is not suitable for individuals with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or coronary artery disease. We strongly recommend consulting your physician before booking.
Do I need special permits to enter the Taiga?
The Taiga lies along the Russia–Mongolia frontier. Official border zone permits, regional fees and logistical clearances are processed in full by Fresh International, so you can focus on enjoying your journey.
Who will guide us?
A professional English-speaking outdoor guide works alongside a local Mongolian guide throughout the expedition.
What will we do with the Tsaatan?
You will share meals, learn to milk, feed and walk reindeer alongside Tsaatan elders, and have a private conversation with the Tribal Chief, followed by a sunset reindeer ride through the valley.
Can I swim in Khövsgöl Lake?
Swimming is optional during the boat cruise on Khövsgöl Lake, one of the world’s 17 ancient lakes.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended, given the remote location and the outdoor activities on this expedition.
What is not included in the price?
International flights to and from Mongolia, domestic flights to Mörön, airport taxes, travel insurance, and personal extras such as laundry, snacks, alcoholic beverages, phone bills, gratuities and excess baggage fees.
How do I pay for the tour?
We accept international bank transfers and PayPal. Once you are ready to book, our office will provide detailed payment instructions.

We provide a recommended arrival window for smooth transfers. If your flight is delayed within that window, we will be there. For major delays outside the time frame, alternative transport may need to be arranged at an additional cost.
